(EMU) – St. Kitts, February 22nd, 2019 -- A few weeks following their initial visit to the Federation, specialists from MindBloom Consulting and St. Francis Xavier University have returned for their second mission which will ultimately assist in reforming the National Curriculum.
On 21st and 22nd February the team of consultants met with educators daily at the Solid Waste Management Corporation’s Conference Room. In response to participants’ feedback during their initial visit, the core team planned follow-up sessions focussing on what curriculum review looks like in practice and to share a draft of the proposed Curriculum and Assessment Framework.
From the sessions it was evident that the national curriculum review is gathering momentum as the participants including consultant and local educators were immersed in lively discussions jointly exploring the opportunity and feasibility of developing a comprehensive curriculum and assessment framework.
Ms. Xanella Claxton, Principal Education Officer on Nevis expressed her satisfaction with regards to inclusivity, “This process is very inclusive and it has been a pleasure to ensure that we get the voices of our teachers and administrators in but also to have public consultations on Nevis as well as St. Kitts.”
Darryll Lloyd, Acting Chief Education Officer stated that he is pleased that the Ministry of Education has put this process into action and is optimistic that the various ideas and concerns put forward by the steering committee will help the consultants evaluate best practices that should be maintained, things that need to be modified or discarded. “We are particularly pleased that after ten years the Ministry of Education has undertaken this mammoth task in an effort to align all the challenges to come up with one comprehensive and state-of-the-art national curriculum.”
