BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE two male, one adult and a juvenile, who were taken into police custody on Saturday (Feb. 23) following the discovery of two pistols and 24 rounds of ammunition in Ponds Pasture, were each slapped with three charges.

A police communiqué today (Feb. 26) stated that 26-year old Kareem Jeffers of Thomas Street, Ponds Pasture and a Juvenile were charged with Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Ammunition and Discharging a Firearm in a Public Place.

Police had stated in an earlier press release that while ranks of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force were conducting a joint patrol last Saturday, they heard reports of what appeared to be gunfire close to 7:00 a.m. in the Newtown area.

On investigating, the ranks observed two armed, masked were running; both of whom were later apprehended in Ponds Pasture and taken into custody.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

However, during a search in the Ponds Pasture area, ranks had discovered “one black mask, along with one Taurus pistol with 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition and one Glock pistol with 13 rounds of .40mm ammunition rounds” on an abandoned premises.

Members of the Crime Scene Unit had processed both scenes and a number of items of evidential value were collected.
