BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – HEAD of the Traffic Department, Inspector Carl Caines has revealed that they would be implementing a number of changes in Basseterre by the end of March.

Among the changes expected to come on stream is the removal of vendors from around Independence Square.

Speaking on local radio recently, Caines said that traffic officials recently met with representative of theTraffic Safety Board and a number of matters were raised.

He said coming out of that meeting, a number of initiatives that were bandied would be implemented.

“The vending trucks all around the Square, those will be removed very shortly, and we also have the vending in and around Basseterre that will be addressed.”

Those changes will come on stream by the end of March, acknowledged Caines, who pointed out that those issues around Basseterre should be fixed.

Additionally, the Inspector told listeners that they would be relocating the bus stop from Horsford’s to the Sands Complex.

The relocation came out of an abundance of caution after traffic officials found that the area was becoming problematic.

“…we looked at it and the danger and the amount of traffic in that area, and very shortly the bus stop will be removed,” noted Caines.
