Professor Jeune Guishard-Pine, OBE, CEO of Verve Connections
By: Professor Jeune Guishard-Pine, OBE, Press Release

March 8th, 2019 -- The first ever International Women in Employment & Business (WEB) conference was hosted by Windsor University School of Medicine (WUSOM) on March 1 as a prelude to the International Women’s Day celebrations.

The conference fulfilled its promise of hitting high notes when Professor Guishard-Pine, CEO of events management company Verve Connections and partner Mrs Euphemia Brice-Roberts of Brice-Roberts Business Consulting Services (BRBC) brought a delegation of seven (7) outstanding professional women of Caribbean heritage from the UK. These women were able to share their expertise alongside an impressive roster of presenters from across St. Kitts and Nevis.

The list of local presenters included Mr Hensley Daniel, Public Policy Consultant and Former Deputy Premier of Nevis, Ms Patricia Walters, CEO of the Cable, Mr Faron Lawrence, President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Dr Tamu Browne, Entrepreneurship Coach, and Mrs Ingrid Charles-Gumbs, Policy Consultant & Former Director of Gender Affairs in St Kitts.

With the UN Gender Equality agenda in mind, the conference had a unique focus on how both men and women can harmonise their efforts so that women can increase their capacity to take on leadership roles and responsibilities.  Another innovation was that attendees were able to access coaching sessions with one of the women from the visiting delegation at the Ocean Terrace Inn  (OTI) on March 2.  Feedback so far has described the conference as “excellent” and “classy”.

The conference also delivered on its promise to provide a generative element with a highly successful special workshop for young women led by award-winning social activist Peaches Cadogan co-Founder of the Womanhood Academy who launched the St Kitts-Nevis chapter of the charity.

The Conference was preceded by a mentoring session for potential future female entrepreneurs in the Federation and a group of female trainee doctors who attend WUSOM.

In addition to these presentations opening remarks were made by Her excellency Dr Thelma Phillip-Browne and the conference was officially opened by the Honourable Hazel Brandy-Williams, Junior Minister in the Nevis Island Administration.

Professor Guishard-Pine who is an educationalist summarised the conference aims simply as “Education Empowers”. Conference Proceedings will be published in the near future.
