Team failed to adapt to conditions…says Captain Holder

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WEST INDIES captain Jason Holder has acknowledged that his team was not good enough during the T20 leg of the English series, which the team lost 3-0.

The series was completed on Sunday (Mar. 10) at Warner Park, where the West Indies were skittled out for a paltry 71 runs.

That followed a crushing defeat by England in the second T20 on Friday that saw the team being bowled out for 45 runs, its lowest in this format of the game.

Holder explained that the team did not adjust to the wicket as their opponents did, noting that the English bowlers stuck to their lengths.

The captain however stressed that he was not disheartened to be ‘rolled over” in two games.

“Overall, I think the guys had a pretty good ODI leg of the series and there is a lot to build on.”

West Indies won the three-match Test series 2-1, before drawing the ODI leg of the series 2-2 with one game being rained out.

Despite expressing his disappointment at losing the series, Holder told reporters that he was happy with the way Sheldon Cottrell and several others performed.

“I think I am a bit disappointed about the T20s, but there were still a lot of qualities. Sheldon Cottrell came into the ODI legs of the tour and did really well for us with the ball…I think most of the bowlers stuck their hands up. Carlos came back into the squad and did an excellent job.”

He noted that the batting was inconsistent with regard to the team’s T20 performance.

Attention will now be on the Caribbean boys ‘preparation for the upcoming World Cup to be played in England and Wales.

Holder, who is the captain of the ODI team, explained that they did not put the latter leg of the series aside because they kept their ODI team.

“But we just didn’t adjust to the T20 format,” exclaimed Holder.
