Basseterre, St. Kitts, March 13, 2019 (SKNIS): On the heels of a very positive report from the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force that indicated a dramatic 48 percent reduction in recorded crime for the first two months of 2019, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris has reiterated his call for all residents to support the work of local law enforcement.
“If you see something, say something,” Dr. Harris said, quoting the familiar tagline used by the police to encourage public reporting of crime.
The comments were made on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 during a Team Unity Community Consultation in Cayon. Dr. Harris, who is also the Minister of National Security, cautioned persons who turn a blind eye to criminal acts to beware of the very real consequences.
“It is time we restore respect and love for each other and for our community,” the prime minister said. “And you the parents, who know your children are in gangs, warn them; gang life is no life. Eventually they will die by guns prematurely. That is what all of the last 20 years have revealed.”
Dr. Harris spoke directly to the young men from Cayon who are fighting amongst themselves.
“You know right from wrong. We are making an appeal, put down your guns. It’s time to end the warring between Lower Cayon and Upper Cayon. It is time to let peace reign,” said the prime minister.
He went on to salute community activists such as Lennox Lewis, who is working to make a difference in the lives of the men and women in the area.
“I say to all in Cayon let us join hands with the [Parliamentary Representative] Honourable Eugene Hamilton and all people of goodwill to preserve the integrity of life in Cayon and in Green Valley, but more than that to ensure that Cayon would bloom as it bloomed before,” Prime Minister Harris said.
