BASSETERRE (19th August, 2009): “It is not working,” said Prime Minister Denzil Douglas, on the PAM party’s alleged strategy to assassinate his character, in an effort defeat the Labour Party.

“It seems as though that PAM’s strategy is to attack the leader, and then they think everything else will fall,” Dr. Douglas said. “They think that if you go after the leader, because he is strong, and he is powerful, you affect the entire body of the party and the government; and things will crumble.”

Douglas called on the leaders of the People’s Action Movement to debate the issues, and to get out of the gutter of St. Kitts politics.

He pointed out that the upcoming general election is not about him personally, but rather about the continued progress of the nation.

The Prime Minister is confident that his party will win a fourth consecutive term in office, because the electorate wants to see a continuation of policies and programs that have added to the soc-economic progress of the Federation.

“This election is not about Denzil Douglas at all,” the Prime Minister said. “It is about continuing policies and programs… and to ensure that those who have benefited from the opportunities that have been provided, that they themselves will be so empowered that they could continue to ensure that there is continued development, and the improvement in the quality of life for the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.”

“So you see this election is not about me,” he said.

The Prime Minister reiterated that to him the elections are about progress, and said he is willing to match his party’s impressive performance in government, to that of “the PAM party’s sordid history of victimization.”

“I truly believe that the goodness that this government has done will live on in the hearts of the people, against the victimization that was practiced by the former administration,” Douglas said. “And, I continue to say to our people that PAM under Lindsay Grant is not different. It has not changed. So when they want to talk about change, they must talk about changing their attitude, and their whole practice of victimization, which Mr. Grant and all of his colleagues subscribe too, to even today.”
