BASSETERRE (19th August, 2009) Minister Cedric Liburd is dissatisfied with Eugene Hamilton for allegedly not not doing enough to help his policyholders.

Liburd said Hamilton is too silent on the issue, and needs to take charge of the matter.

Hamilton is the Deputy Leader of the People’s Action Movement, and is the party’s candidate for Consituency #8.

As a political candidate, and more importantly as the General Manager of British American, Liburd feels Hamilton has not done enough to inform his policyholders.

“I would like to categorize this silence of Mr. Hamilton as a sign of further distancing himself from the policyholders and an admission of guilt of having been negligent in discharging his duties as a General Manager of the local branch of British American,” Liburd said.

Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Denzil Douglas,  has also called on Hamilton to pay more attention to his policyholders, and not to abandoned them.

“The first responsibility of Mr. Hamilton, the general manger of British American, not only locally, but regionally is to be able to respond to the queries that people are making with regard to their monies. We are talking about millions upon millions of dollars,” Dr. Douglas said.

Hamilton needs to speak on this issue, Liburd said, and pointed out that Hamilton has allowed other members of the PAM party to deal with matter.

“It is important to note that the PAM candidate, Mr. Eugene Hamilton, made no meaningful contribution to the press conference and allowed Mr. Grant, someone who had no direct bearing in the matter, to speak fully on his behalf,” Liburd stated.

Liburd said he is not trying to politicize the issue.

“The Labour Party has not sought to smear Mr. Hamilton in this British American fiasco. Mr. Hamilton’s own actions and inactions continue to betray him as shirking the responsibilities that he undertook when he was hired as General Manager,” Liburd said

Liburd who has worked in the insurance field for more than two decades said he knows responsibilities of a branch manger of an insurance company.

“I was once a General Manager for a reputable insurance firm in this country,” Liburd said. “I know the responsibilities of the Branch Manager include specifically representing the interest of all policyholders to the Board of Directors, and at the quarterly and annual meetings of the group.”
