DEA Makes Donation To St. Kitts-Nevis Police Force

Charles Graham presents laptop
Police Press Release
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, (August 19th 2009) – The US Department of State and US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) presented technical equipment to the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force Drug Squad (RSCNPF) in an effort to boost their capabilities.

Among the items which were received by Commissioner of Police Austin Williams on behalf of the drug squad were a Dell Inspiron Mini 10 laptop computer a Dell M409WX projector and computer and projector accessories (cases, cables, software, etc.)

The force’s drug squad which has responsibility for enforcing the Federation’s drug laws has been an active partner with the DEA in combating drug trafficking throughout the Eastern Caribbean.

The laptop computer and portable projector, which are small travel size models, will benefit the unit and are ideal to be used for law enforcement briefings, presentations, in service training, demand reduction events, and gathering intelligence in the field.

This equipment donation was made possible through the US Federal Grant Program which is administered by the U.S. Embassy Bridgetown, through its Public Affairs Section.

The Embassy offers grants throughout the Eastern Caribbean in support of U.S. policy goals in the region.  Investing in people is a key feature of the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy activities and its active grants program supports that goal.  The U.S. government invested approximately USD $17 million this year in programs promoting peace and security, economic growth and improved health in the region.

In accepting the gifts, Commissioner Williams thanked Mr. Graham and the US Embassy for the timely donation, stating that they will help the force to carry out its mandate in the fight against crime and drugs in the Federation, and in being proactive in its prevention strategies.  The items were handed over to Sgt. Travis Rogers of the Drug Squad.
