(EMU) – St. Kitts, April 10, 2019: The Ministry Education continues to make major strides towards enhancing the quality of education, with the In-Service Training Programme for Primary and Secondary school teachers. The training began on Tuesday April 9th and culminated today April 10th at the Bird Rock Beach Hotel.
The In-Service Training aims to provide support to new teachers during their first year in the profession at primary and secondary levels. The programme is interactive and leads to positive change in the classroom and encourages critical reflection from the teachers. In keeping with one of the objectives for the session; ‘strengthen professional development and improvement for classroom practices’.
Giving brief remarks at the opening ceremony, Chief Education Officer, Daryll Lloyd stated, “If teachers are to platform, their function must be efficient and effective. It is important for you (teachers) to exercise the right attitude, look at this as an opportunity for upward mobility.”
He added “This is an opportunity for you to level the playing field between yourself and your colleagues,” as he encouraged the teachers to use the breakout sessions as advancement opportunities such as opportunities for collaboration with teachers.
The programme takes into consideration the needs of teachers, and current content knowledge and practices. Teachers will explore the ‘Language Block and Instructional Alignment’ facilitated by Senior Education Officers and Coordinators stationed at the Curriculum Development Unit.
This Easter break session, is in addition to, weekly sessions done throughout the school year.
