St. Pauls Edge Saddlers, Conaree, Cayon get big wins

Action on Sunday night between Saddlers and St. Pauls
By: Andre Huie, Press Release

April 11th, 2019 -- S.L. Horsfords St. Paul’s edged Fast Cash Saddlers F.C. to keep themselves in the hunt for the playoffs of the SKNFA National Bank Premier League on Sunday at the Warner Park Football Stadium. The goal came from Deondre Challenger in the 27th minute. To make matters worse for Saddlers, Evansroy Barnes of Saddlers was set off after being issued a red card in the 69th minute for using offensive and abusive language towards the referee.

Kwame Challenger of St. Paul’s said the win was due to a good team effort from his team mates. “The coach told us to go out and play in our individual selves and play as a team as well and to go as the game plan and to just come out with a victory,” Challenger said. He said the inconsistency of the discipline of the players, held to the poor results prior to their latest winning streak. “We back together as a team and this is the result,” he added.

For Denroy Matthew, a player with Saddlers, his team mates did not follow through with the coach’s game plan. “What the coach told us to do, we didn’t come out and execute. (The coach told us to) get the ball as wide as possible and then get it down the line and penetrate and get it through the middle and get a shot at goal,” he disclosed. “My strikers are not giving me what I expected. Ever since we lost the three games, we have been going downhill. We will come out and we will strive for better,” Matthew added.
