Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts - The St. Christopher and Nevis Social Security Board has made a financial contribution to the Public Education Forum on Personal Financial Management which was held at the Cayon Community Centre on Monday 17th August 2009. The Board was pleased to contribute a sum of $1,000.00 to assist in defraying costs related to media coverage and other operational expenses.

In that regard, it is significant to note that the proceedings were aired live on a number of radio stations across the Federation. ZIZ Radio was on hand to provide live broadcast with links to Sugar City Rock and VON radio stations.

The Forum was an initiative of the Ministry of Finance designed to provide an environment in which the audience could assess the impact of the global financial crisis on the economy and people of St. Kitts and Nevis. It was also geared to discussing information via a panel discussion format which would generate ideas for developing strategies to deal with the challenges to individuals on a daily basis.

The panel was represented as follows:
    • Mr. Denzil James of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank
    • Mr. Dimitrius Adamolopus of the Bank of Nova Scotia
    • Ms. Pearle Williams of COURTS
    • Mrs. Beverley Williams of the Inland Revenue Department
    • Mr. David Fox of the Development Bank of St. Kitts and Nevis
    • Mrs. Sheryl Bass of the St. Kitts Co-Operative Credit Union

The Deputy Financial Secretary Mr. Calvin Edwards moderated the discussion while the Minister of Finance Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris gave brief remarks.

The theme “Survival Tips for the Challenging Global Financial Times” was the focus of the Forum. It is consistent with Social Security’s own goal of ensuring a meaningful response to the ongoing challenges; the end result of which would be sustainable income earning capacity for the citizens and residents of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
