Missing fishermen safe in Saba

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE two fishermen who were reported missing by local law enforcement officials are said to be safe in Saba.

Police confirmed to reporters that Carlos Jimenez (35) and Ismael Lorenzo (41) were both found by law enforcement officials in Saba.

The duo, whose address was given as Bath Village, Nevis, was reported missing by their families on Wednesday (Apr. 10) after they did not return from fishing.

On the following day, police had issued a missing persons bulletin for the men.

However, in a brief media statement, police said the men are in good health.

Just last year two men from St. Kitts, Vernon Pemberton of New Road and Hayden Langley disappeared after they ventured out to sea to fish.

But questions remain over whether the vessel they two used to venture out to sea was equipped with the new Vessel Monitoring System that all fishermen were mandated to carry.

Additionally, was the Department of Marine Resources contacted to track the whereabouts of the missing vessels if that system were installed?

And if the vessel were not carrying the new system that was handed over in February, what are the penalties for not having the device?
