Kite flying competition at Black Rocks on Good Friday to offer attractive cash prizes

By: Peter Ngunjiri, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, April 16, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- There will not be a single dull moment at the historic Black Rocks on Good Friday, April 19, as the pasture will be bubbling with activity with the Annual Dr Harris Constituency Number Seven Kite Flying Competition starting at 11:00 am where attractive cash prizes will be paid to the winners.

“The organising committee of the Annual Dr Harris Constituency Number Seven Kite Flying Competition ensures that we hold the competition in order to help to sustain the cultural pastime of kite flying on Good Friday, which will be on April 19 this year,” said Ms Vincia Matthew, Secretary of the organising committee. “However the competition is now open to all constituencies and is no longer an activity for Constituency Number Seven alone.”

According to Ms Matthew, the organising committee has made arrangements that will make this year’s competition attract more participation and will as a result be awarding the highest prize money ever for the various categories in the kite flying competition. The committee is hoping to make the event even bigger than it was last year.

“We will be offering attractive prizes, as one winner will take home $1,200 for flying the biggest kite,” observed Ms Matthew. “The person who flies the highest kite will be awarded $800; the person flying most creative kite, or the cutest kite as people say, will be awarded $500; and the oldest person flying a kite will be awarded $300. The youngest person flying a kite will receive a cake.”

Besides flying kites there will be a variety of other activities such as cricket, dominoes, draughts (checkers), bouncing castles for the younger ones, lime and spoon races, sack races, three-legged races, and the crowd favourite the tug of war will be on offer as well. Entertainment will be provided by Hell Fire, Grand Masters and the masquerades, while food and drinks will be available as well.
