CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THERE has been some talk of late of introducing legislation that would make salary deductions for child support mandatory. Weekend Vibes took to the streets of Charlestown and asked Nevisians their views on the proposal.
Sameta – Yes! Deduct it from his salary, because some man does play smart if they have to bring it themselves they won’t.
Javi – Definitely! A man is supposed to pay his child support. I strongly believe a man suppose to take up his responsibility without a woman taking him to court.
Sam – Yeah! If they know that they not going support their children they need to leave the woman.
Brian – Hell yea! Because we men need to support our children everyday not every week. Every second of the clock be there for our kids
Sean – Yes! I support that, once due process has taken place. I think that the mother or child should not be disadvantaged by having to chase the father for support. The deduction ensures that the mother receives regular maintenance for the child or children and the father would avoid building up arrears, thus preventing him from a custodial sentence.
