BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 24, 2019 -- The leadership of the Antioch Baptist Church (ABC) is moving forward with an ambitious agenda of impactful community engagement, spiritual upliftment and personal development that anyone in St. Kitts and Nevis can be a part of.
Senior Pastor Lincoln D. Connor said the official opening of the new House of Worship and Multipurpose Facility at Lime Kiln Commercial Development on Sunday May 26, 2019, is an important step in fulfilling this expanded vision that reflects “the new function and role of the church.” The vision encompasses dedicated spaces for the development of culture and the arts such as the church’s dance ministry and music programmes; the expansion of multimedia training; better coordination of existing outreach and after school activities; as well as the introduction of new initiatives such as a youth recognition award and enhanced worship experiences.
“This is not intended to be a building just to be occupied on Sundays but one that we hope throughout the week will be occupied,” Pastor Connor stated. “On the weekends we [will] have worship experiences and we plan to invite different bands from different churches to be a part of that so that you can have different bands on different nights so Christian folks have someplace they can actually go and be a part of.”
He added that the building on Infirmary Road that served as the main sanctuary for the past 53 years, will continue to play a part in the enhanced developmental thrust.
“We have a big, big vision that requires a big, big tent and so we are spreading ourselves really wide because we believe that there is a lot to be done and God has given us the capacity to do it. And so in this season, we want to accomplish all that God has intended for us,” Pastor Connor indicated.
The charismatic church leader also extended an open invitation to persons to participate in one of the two public services marking the grand opening of the building, this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
“While it is true that we are excited about this building, we want people to understand that Antioch is about ministry, and this building is a vehicle for ministry and so in both services we will be doing something that will demonstrate that,” Pastor Connor stated.
The grand opening follows closely on the heels of a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new sanctuary and multipurpose building held on Thursday (May 23, 2019). Scores of persons including Governor General His Excellency Sir. S.W. Tapley Seaton; Governor General’s Deputy His Excellency Michael Morton and his wife Cynthia Morton; Members of Parliament such as the Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas, and Constituency #2 Representative Hon. Konris Maynard, as well as St. Kitts and Nevis’ Ambassador to the United Nations His Excellency Sam Condor; and Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) His Excellency Tom Lee, attended.
The ribbon was cut by Darion Caines, a dedicated young church member, who Pastor Connor singled out for giving tremendous support during the construction phase. Darion is also the lead drummer in the church band. Caines was supported in the ribbon cutting by veteran stalwarts of the church Sylvia Penny, Doreen Delaney and Enid Shoy.
