BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PASTA lovers and food connoisseurs will enjoy partaking in Pasta Day at the Waterfalls Restaurant located in the Ocean Terrace Inn (OTI).
On Tuesdays and Fridays from noon to 2:30 p.m., the Waterfalls Restaurant is the place to be for a quality dining experience. Patrons will discover a variety of pasta dishes served straight from the skillet and expertly prepared by master chef Gregory Austin.
“We have roast beef, chicken breast, lamb, pork, sausage and others. Seafood lovers can dine on shrimp, lobster and mussels. There’s also a vegetarian option, so we have something for everyone,” Austin stressed.
The variety does not only extend to the types of meats available, as persons can select the type of pasta they want served – spaghetti, linguine or bowtie, among others. If that isn’t enough, there is also the choice between two savoury sauces: a creole tomato-based concoction or the popular cream sauce with parmesan cheese.
Prices range from EC$25 for the vegetarian dish to EC$60 for the seafood plate. According to Austin, the concept was created to satisfy the local palate for pasta cuisine.
“There aren’t many restaurants that serve pasta, and those that do only have one or two dishes. I wanted to create something that was fresh to the island; an atmosphere that was unlike anything seen before.”
“People can come and choose what pasta they want, with the meat and/or seafood they want, and the meal is prepared in a matter of minutes. It can’t get any better than seeing the food you’re going to eat be prepared right in front of you. The customer is always aware of what’s going on, he added.”
Austin, who is originally from Barbados, has worked in restaurants throughout the UK, US and the Caribbean. In 2007 he was the inaugural winner of the Hotel and Tourism Association’s Chef of the Year competition.
The chef was confident of the quality of his dishes and unequivocally stated that nobody could find better within the Federation.
“It’s the best pasta in St. Kitts. I would match it to any restaurant – the Marriott, Marshall’s, Serendipity and everywhere else. There are a few more exciting ideas I plan to implement and I hope the public will come out and support it, because Pasta Day was created with them in mind.”
