Ministry of Tourism accepts artisans display cases as part of community and heritage tourism efforts

By: (SKNIS), Press Release

Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 29, 2019 (SKNIS): The Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Organization of American States (OAS), accepted display cases from Razo Construction during a brief ceremony on Tuesday, May 28, as part of the OAS Achieving Market Access for Niche Artisanal Producers Project.

Describing Tuesday’s collaboration as a proud moment, Mrs. Carlene Henry-Morton, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, said it formed part of the ministry’s community and heritage efforts “to engage and partner with tourism stakeholders.”

She went on to state that this initiative will help to improve and motivate the local artisans in selling their products.

“This is yet another initiative in which we are working directly with local artisans to improve the quality of the service that they provide, to motivate them to improve their skill set and productivity and in that way to increase their chances of marketing and selling their products,” Mrs. Henry-Morton said.

With funding from the OAS, the Ministry of Tourism is enabled to develop the community and heritage aspect of tourism. It was a continuation of that initiative that invited crafts artisans to attend a Capacity Building Workshop at the Ocean terrace Inn on October 25, 2019. That workshop focused on targeting the market and the pricing of their goods to make a profit, managing and processing customer payments, branding and marketing their business and products and accessing customer markets.

This workshop was used to better improve and increase local artisan’s chances in selling their products. As such, seven (7) months later on May 28, Razo Construction created display cases to help further this effort.
