GIS Press Release

Roadtown, Tortola - Government is this week reflecting on its achievements over the past year as it marks its second year in office.

A four-page supplement in the three local newspapers this week will chronicle some of the major achievements in the past year. Achievements which include the signing of the Territory’s 12th Tax Information Exchange Agreement, the successful hosting of the 49th Meeting of the OECS Authority, the construction of the Commercial Court which will function as an arm of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, the commissioning of the Territory’s second and third sets of traffic lights and ongoing work on the new Peebles Hospital.

Similar to what was done in observance of Government’s first year in office, Premier and Minister for Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE is expected to deliver a speech highlighting Government’s achievements to date.

The successes recorded by the current administration will also be the focus of GIS Radio Reports in the coming weeks as information officers highlight the major developments within their assigned ministries.

Accountability is a standard to which Government seeks to adhere and to this end, the Premier and other members of Cabinet have committed to holding a series of Territory-wide public meetings in the coming weeks to further update residents on the work of Government.

The current administration was elected on August 21, 2007. Honourable O’Neal was sworn in as the Territory’s first Premier one day later, followed on August 23, 2007 by the remaining Cabinet Ministers.
