Another firearm off the streets; one in custody

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN the Police Force's continuous effort to make St. Kitts and Nevis a safer place for both citizens and residents, as well as visitors, vigilant members of a joint patrol have removed yet another illegal firearm off the streets of the Federation and have taken one suspect into custody.

This incident occurred on Tuesday (Jun. 4) in The Village area, Basseterre.

According to a police communiqué, while on a joint patrol in the area, officers observed an individual on a motorbike with what appeared to be a firearm.

On recognition of the patrol vehicle and its occupants, the individual tried to escape but was pursued and apprehended shortly after.

Ccording to the contents of the communiqué, it is logical that upon apprehension no firearm was found on the individual, but “a search of the area resulted in the discovery of a Glock Pistol with thirteen (13) rounds of ammunition”.

Both the man and the firearm were taken into police custody.

Investigations into this matter are ongoing.

The Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force took the opportunity to remind citizens and residents of the twin-island Federation of their civic duty.

“Citizens and residents are reminded that we all have a role to play in keeping communities safe. Persons are asked to report all suspicious activity or information about illegal activity to the Police by dialling the crime hotline at 707.”
