BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IF you want to see the latest North American hairstyles live and direct, then check out Joy’s Hair Creations 2009; an event that promises to be nothing less than spectacular.
The event is being organised by hairstylist Joy Sweeney-Moore, who is originally from Trafalgar Village, St. Kitts but resides in New York.
The hair show will be held at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel on Sunday, November 15 beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Hair has always been a passion for Moore and, after migrating to Puerto Rico in 1999 and thence to New York in 2003, she has worked at some notable salons including Precious Lady, Hair Express and Eternal Beauty.
The 30-year-old received professional training from the tutors of the prestigious Libs Beauty School in Manhattan.
According to Karen Crossman, who is assisting in organising the event, since 2006 Moore has been working at the Asymmetry Salon, where she has grown to become vast in different hairstyles acquiring skills about weaving which is her specialty.
Crossman added that some of the styles Moore would be showcasing at the hair show include mohawks, weaves, relaxed styles, finger caps and fingers waves.
“She wants to show St. Kitts that she has excelled through hard work, and letting them know that beauty is an essential part of growth for a person, whether it is inside or out,” Crossman sa
She said that hairdressers of St. Kitts and Nevis are invited to attend the event free of charge as Moore hopes to share popular styles from North America with them.
“She has the hairdressers here as part of her hair family, and will be inviting hair dressers to the show.”
Crossman said that special mention must be paid to Deniece Grey, Kenon Downs and Kim Day, the persons with whom she works; also her family members including sisters Shauna Benjamin and Diane Sweeney, her brother Dexter Tyrell, aunt Sheila Barrett, Kepeila Barrett and cousin Veshel Galloway.
“Those have especially helped her along the way.”
“She also wants to let people know she is forever striving for success. She doesn’t think she has arrived and feels she has more to go and is always open to learning new ideas in hair and self as a whole,” Crossman said.
