BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, June 13, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Community walkthroughs initiated by Area Parliamentary Representative for St. Christopher Eight, the Hon Eugene Hamilton, have largely been successful and he is thanking members of the Constituency Group that have been supporting him.

“It is important that I thank all those of you who come out in the streets in the afternoons to campaign with me,” the Hon Hamilton told members of the Constituency Group drawn from the People’s Action Movement (PAM and the Peoples Labour Party (PLP) on Wednesday June 12 at the end of the walkthrough in Keys Extension. “We are doing a significant job, which I believe is negatively affecting the opposition.”

The Hon Eugene Hamilton, who is the People’s Action Movement Deputy Leader, and Minister of Agriculture, Health, National Insurance, Human Settlements, Community Development, Gender Affairs and Social Services, informed members of the Constituency Group which was led by Mr Roy Rogers that persons in the opposition had started writing false information about them on Facebook.

“I believe it is the opposition doing it because they want to break us up,” warned the Hon Hamilton. “Do not let the opposition succeed in breaking us up. They see what we are doing and they are feeling it and they start to put propaganda out. What I saw on Facebook suggests to me that they want to break us up.”

Community walkthroughs which started in the Conaree area and lasted a few days culminating on Thursday May 6 continued on Wednesday June 12 in Canada Estate’s Back Road, where one resident exclaimed: “This is the first time I see so much persons in this avenue.” Another resident at the back of S.K.I. Academy said that the Team Unity was doing a good job and offered water to members of the Constituency Group.

From Canada Estate the team went on to the lower side of Keys Extension where a group of children who were playing stopped and said in unison: “Honourable Eugene Hamilton.” Their parents held animated discussions with the Minister and Area Parliamentary Representative.

“By and large we are much better in support in unity than people would like to believe,” said the Hon Eugene Hamilton. “All I need is an opportunity to talk to the people especially the young people. We came to Canada Estate and Keys - we have interacted with all the families in Canada Estate, some for a longer period than others. We have started on Keys Extension, and I think the reception in the Keys Extension is excellent.”

According to the Area Parliamentary Representative, the residents that the group interacted with were settled there by the previous administration, “but I think most people here recognise the work that the government is doing, and they are complimentary of the work that the government is doing and I trust that will translate into strong support politically and at the polls when the time comes. I think by and large, most people appreciate the work that the government is doing.”

Community walkthroughs will take a break until Monday June 17 when they return to finish off the remaining part of Keys Extension, and if possible to continue on to Keys Village. However, the main walkthrough in Keys Village will be on Wednesday June 19.
