BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TRIBUTES continue to pour in for 64-year-old Cleveland Collins who died last Thursday (Jun. 13) in a fire at Carifesta Village in St.. Peters.

At a vigil held for the fire victim, homage was paid to him by St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party Representative for St. Peter’s, Dr. Terrance Drew.

“Gregory was almost like my neighbour. I knew him for a lot of years. He used to take care of a house just across from me. He and I had a very close relationship and many a time the first person I saw in the mornings would be him. Year after year he would be the first person I would say good morning to.

“The family whose house he took care of, all of us are very close…Gregory was a humble soul, a respectful soul, a kind soul. My impression of Gregory is that he was a humble person. He was extremely kind and honest and respectful.”

Reflecting on the life of Collins, Pastor Dwayne said he had touched many in the community based on the number of people at the event.

    “He meant something to everybody.”

Police, in a statement, said that fire had broken out at All B's Bar at Douglas Estate at around 3:00 a.m. on June 13 and that the St. Kitts-Nevis Fire and Rescue Services was summoned to the scene.

After extinguishing the blaze, the firefighters discovered the charred body of Collins lying on the floor of the business establishment.
