Primary School students in Basseterre, St. Kitts invest in another Hour of Code

By: Junior Achievement, Press Release

July 4th, 2019 -- Junior Achievement St. Kitts and Nevis, partnered with the Insurance Company of the West Indies (ICWI) to bring a structured program in coding to primary schools within the Federation. The new program was piloted this academic year in observance of two key anniversary celebrations – the 100th Anniversary of Junior Achievement World-Wide and the 50th Anniversary of ICWI.

Junior Achievement is renown for delivering educational content under three developmental pillars – financial literacy, work-readiness and entrepreneurship. To underpin success in today’s global economy, Junior Achievement has embedded technology into each of the core competencies that form the bedrock of the organization.

ICWI shares the same beliefs in the value of education and technology and immediately stepped forward at the relaunch of Junior Achievement in the Federation last September, with an offer of assistance to bring coding into the classroom.

The JA-ICWI Hour of Code Competition held in December 2018, followed by the JA-ICWI Hour of Code Challenge in June 2019 demonstrate the commitment of both organizations to the empowerment of our children so that they can own their economic success.

Over 300 students participated in the initiative, with certificates being awarded to students at: TuckerClarke; Beach-Allen; Irishtown and Dr. William Connor Primary Schools.

The Federation can expect to see transformation of our youth through Junior Achievement.
