By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING reports out of Taiwan that a student from St. Kitts-Nevis was rescued from the side of a cliff, the Federation’s Embassy in Taiwan has described the student’s behavior as an illness.

A statement from the Government Information Service over the weekend said, “The Embassy is aware of the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the illness of a student from the Federation pursuing studies in the Republic of China (Taiwan). The Embassy has been actively engaged throughout the difficulties experienced by the student and has been offering technical, financial and emotional support to date.”

Reports out of Taipei said police rescued a young woman from Taroko National Park’s Chingshui Cliff, noting that the individual was believed to have been emotionally unstable at the time of the incident.

Photos showed the woman on the side of the cliff being rescued by law enforcement officials.

Media reports said police arrived on the scene soon after receiving a report.

The Embassy in Taiwan said it involved the Ministry of Foreign Affairs both in the Federation and in the Republic of China (Taiwan).

“At this point, the Embassy wishes to place on record its sincere gratitude to the government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan), in particular, the many ordinary citizens of Taiwan who volunteered their services and the several agencies which participated to ensure a positive outcome under difficult and dangerous circumstances.”
