BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, July 16, 2019 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The Royal St. Kitts Hotel is set to break ground for the start of construction on a new development that will add more than ten new suites to its property and further enhance the tourism product in St. Kitts and Nevis.

At a ceremony planned for Wednesday, July 17, 2019, Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris will join the principals of the Royal St. Kitts Hotel, including its president Mr. John Zuliani, for the ground-breaking of The Cove—a new development that will feature 12 suites. The ceremony is expected to commence at 10am.

The new development is expected to cost around $US4 million and will provide jobs for roughly 60-75 local workers during the construction phase.

Prime Minister Harris stated that this latest investment by Mr. Zuliani and the Royal St. Kitts Hotel, the second in just over two years, is a true reflection of the confidence investors, both foreign and local alike, have in the economy of St. Kitts and Nevis.

In 2018, the Royal St. Kitts Hotel opened the doors to the Royal Plaza, an 11-unit commercial development located in the hotel’s parking lot. The hotel’s parking lot was also expanded from the current 35 spaces to about 125, to adequately support the Royal Plaza.

The US$7 million Royal Plaza saw the employment of some 100 local construction workers over its 14-month construction phase.

Now, more than 110 locals are employed full time by the various business tenants that operate from the Royal Plaza including Uncle Fats, MaPau St. Kitts Casino & Entertainment Centre and Rams Supermarket.
