BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - WITH an aim of developing the sport discipline of lawn tennis and raising the level of competition in the Federation, the St. Kitts-Nevis Tennis Association is hosting a three-official clinic on St. Kitts.

The clinic is geared towards certifying a number of new chair umpires and linesmen ahead of the inaugural International Junior Tournament in the Federation in November.

Speaking at the opening of the clinic on Friday evening (Jul. 19), President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Tennis Association, Watkins Chiverton underscored the importance of the clinic.

“This is a stark moment for us,” the President said.

The three-day training is being facilitated by International Tennis Federation White Badge official, Anthony Jamieson of Trinidad and Tobago.

During the sessions, the coaches, players and trainers will learn the basics of tennis and a number of other fundamentals of the discipline.

Meanwhile, the SKNTA used the opening of the programme to present certificates to several successful participants of its Trainers Course.

Director of Sports, Anthony Wiltshire commended the executive members of the Association for hosting the course, noting that it is critical to the human resource of the sport.

“We know that the Tennis Association will be hosting a major tournament in November, therefore, we are to be ready. So it is important that we engage in such activities,” Wiltshire said.
