Island Xpressions presents 13th Poetry Show tonight

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - TONIGHT (Aug. 27) will be the time for all poetry lovers in the Federation to shine at Mapau on Port Zante, where Island Xpressions will stage its 13th Show Celebration.

According to President of Island Xpressions, Samal Duggins, “We will be revisited by the most alluring performers of the past 12 shows.” He stated that there would also be the customary an “open mic segment” where any and everyone could participate and share a poem.

Duggins said that he and his team are also putting something new in place for the 14th Show which would be featured on ZIZ TV sometime in mid-September.

He said the past shows have been quite impressive and even though the turnout was not always the best, he knows the interest is there because people often stop him in the streets and ask about the show. He added that this is the greatest accomplishment, knowing that the interest is there.

He also extended an invitation to all, encouraging people to come out as plans are currently in place to make the event bigger, better and much more exciting.

Island Xpressions had launched the Poetry Open Mic Night in February 2008 and has since tried to make it a monthly event, but Duggins and his team had missed out on a couple of events due to unforeseen circumstances.

The show kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and, as the President of Island Xpressions always say, “Dust off those rhyme books and join us where you can be you, feel free and xpress yourself!”
