SPBS to honor Sandy Pointer And Friends (SPAF)

By: SPBS, Press Release

August 14th, 2019 -- Sandy Pointers and Friends (SPAF) is a group that focuses on supporting Primary Schools between Dieppe Bay and Old Road in St. Kitts. They have served this community for the past 17 years. SPBS is proud to recognize SPAF with its Distinguished Community Service Award at its 2019 Awards Gala in NY. The event will be held under the distinguished patronage of the Honorable Selwyn S.C. Walters on August 31st in NY. The theme of the event is “Working Together for A Brighter Future”.

SPAF, a group of SKN nationals living in the diaspora, has been assisting nationals of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis at home for the last 17 years.

Sandy Pointers and Friends (SPAF) was officially founded in 2002 by a group of Sandy Pointers and friends, under the leadership of Mr. Vince Desuza.  It all began at a repass, in conversation, someone came up with the idea that Sandy Pointers need to also meet under more pleasant situations, and the thought was born for a reunion of Sandy Pointers. A group took the trip and, on our return, brainstormed and came up with the idea to assist the Sandy Point Primary School, since everyone else focused on the Sandy Point High School, as so many groups did back then. As our name states, there were friends among us from other villages in St. Kitts that supported the cause, thus the name, Sandy Pointers and Friends. It was therefore decided that we would concentrate on the Primary Schools from Old Road to Dieppe Bay going westward.

We began by sending barrels of school supplies annually. As time went by, we donated computers, televisions, High Speed Cameras, Tents, Refrigerators, a Stove, Science equipment as requested by the various schools. We also donated approximately twelve (12) Clocks to Pogson Medical Center, a Washing Machine to “Save our Sons”. The group also supplied barrels of toys and other supplies to pre-schools in the same districts and other individual donations as requested.
