BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – DUE to the success of recent operations, the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has witnessed an increase in the number of illegal drugs and firearms recovered for the year.
According to a release dated yesterday (Aug. 27), a joint unit of police officers and soldiers from the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force executed two search warrants on Wednesday (Aug. 26) at premises in Old Road for controlled drugs arms and ammunition.
The release stated nothing illegal was found but when the unit turned its attention to an abandoned house at Franklands Road the result was much different.
“Seventeen pounds of cured marijuana, 2 500 freshly harvested marijuana plants ranging in height from one foot to four feet, approximately two pounds of marijuana seeds and six .25 rounds of ammunition were found in the house. The street value of the marijuana is $42 500. The contrabands were seized and taken into custody; no one was made accountable,” it read.
In other news, the police force has seized its 22nd illegal firearm for the year.
Police reports indicated that members of the Drug Squad responded to the sound of gunshots at Manchester Avenue yesterday morning. They seized a 7.62mm Assault Rifle, a magazine with 29 matching rounds of ammunition, a pair of camouflage uniforms and two masks.
Consequently, Jahno Francis of Pitcairn Street, Everette Ritchen of Ponds Pasture and Denzil Flemming of Taylor’s were each charged for possession of firearm and possession of ammunition. The trio will appear in court shortly.
