New York/St. Peter’s Alumni and Friends to be recognized by SPBS

By: SPBS, Press Release

August 16th, 2019 -- SPBS has engaged formally and informally with various leaders from the New York St. Peters Alumni and Friend’s Association, Inc. We recognize that this is group with shared ambition to serve SKN with focus in supporting the St. Peters community. SPBS is proud to recognize the St. Peter’s group with its Distinguished Community Service Award at its 2019 Awards Gala in NY. The event will be held under the distinguished patronage of the Honorable Selwyn S.C. Walters on August 31st in NY. The theme of the event is “Working Together for A Brighter Future”.

New York/St. Peter’s Alumni and Friends, Inc. is a non-Profit organization whose mission is to bridge the gap between the staff and students of Dean Glasford Primary school in the Parish of St. Peter’s St. Kitts, (formerly St. Peter’s Primary) and Alumni residing in New York. Established in 2008 and led by its first President, Maureen Rouse, the organization recognizes the need to give back to its community in St. Kitts. Its primary goal is to provide support to the school’s programs and projects. Another tenet of the organization is the provision of assistance to charitable organizations. To this end, the Association donates annually to organizations here in the Bronx, New York and on the island of St. Kitts.

The organization provides support to the Dean Glasford Primary school in improving its physical infrastructure as well as through the provision of school supplies and other materials for the students. The aim is to create an environment conducive to learning, which in turn would produce positive outcomes with students striving to achieve their fullest potential. The Alumni organization provides annual monetary awards to deserving students of Dean Glasford Primary School entering high school on St. Kitts, as well as to high school graduates of Kittitian and Nevisian heritage residing in New York who meet the scholarship committee’s application criteria. We congratulate our 2019 New York award recipients, Mr.  Trevor Duggins Jr. and Ms. Ayesha Morrishaw.

Our organization recognizes that to execute our plans and fulfill our mandate, vision, team spirit, commitment, sustained efforts, effective planning, hard work, time, persistence and financial resources must be an integral part to achieve the desired outcomes and a measure of our success. Fundraising is therefore critical in achieving our goals. The major annual fundraising events include the annual Christmas Party, our Prayer Breakfast that is held in March and our Father’s Day Dinner Dance.

New York St. Peter’s Alumni and Friends recognize that the generosity of our fellow Kittitians, Nevisians and friends from other islands, have allowed us to achieve our goals on St. Kitts and New York over the past years and we sincerely thank you. According to group president, “we extend warmest thanks and appreciation to the Sandy Point Benevolent Society for nominating us for your 2019 Distinguished Community Award. We are indeed honored to be the recipient of this award and we wish to applaud SPBS for their work done over the past years on St. Kitts and New York”.
