CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – RESIDENTS of Nevis, and ultimately St. Kitts, can now look forward to a steady supply of fresh, locally-grown chicken compliments of Jones and Sons Enterprise.

The venture was launched on Saturday (Aug. 29) at Gingerland with a simple ceremony chaired by proprietor Anthony Jones.

Jones, a former educator, said the plan is to supply fresh chicken daily to all of Nevis, and eventually the entire Federation. He stated his belief that chicken should be eaten fresh and without the need for storage.

“Fresh chicken will be available every day,” he stated at the ceremony.

Jones will be supplying chickens to distributors from his farm at New River, and plans to open a “Chicken Shop” at Victoria Road by October.

Nurse Patsy Hanley represented the Minister of Health, Hon. Hensley Daniel, at the ceremony, and congratulated Jones on the bold step toward widening the fresh goods now available to Nevisians. She said there has been an expansion of products in recent years, and it is “always a delight” when a local business person takes such an initiative.

Former Minister of Health Jean Harris urged Jones not to take his business for granted.

She said success is not based on luck, nor is it instantaneous, but is instead achieved through a journey of diligence and hard work. She took time to urge Nevisians to support the business, thus enabling Jones to provide the best possible service to the public.

Also speaking at the ceremony were the General Manager of the Bank of Nevis (BON), Everette Martin, Dr. Godfrey Araujo and Jones’ brother, Stephen.

Martin spoke of the business plan presented by Jones, and said BON is fully committed to small business ventures, particularly those that would lead to an improvement in the quality of life among Nevisians.

Dr. Araujo, who is Jones’ personal physician and traveled from Trinidad for the ceremony, said Jones faced death twice and had numerous surgeries over his life, but persevered as a strong man who showed he can deal with disability and overcome it.

Samples of Jones’ chicken, already cooked, were on sale at the ceremony and demand proved so great that the supply soon ran out.
