BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – IN addition to going under by 11 runs to the Trinbago Knight Riders in their opening match on Wednesday (Sept. 4), the St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots were penalized for a breach of Code of Conduct.

In a statement issued yesterday (Sept. 5), the Caribbean Premier League stated that the St. Kitts-Nevis Patriots were charged with a breach of Article 2.5 of the Hero CPL Code of Conduct – Minimum Over Rate Offences – at the end of match one between themselves and the Trinbago Knight Riders at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain.

According to CPL, the charge of being one over down was laid by the Match Officials Team against the captain of the Patriots, Carlos Brathwaite, who accepted it.

As provided for at Appendix 2, Section 4.2 of the Code of Conduct, the applicable monetary fine was imposed on the captain, and the Patriots team was penalized with a 0.05 reduction in their Net Run Rate.

Action on the field of play saw the Knight Riders captain, Keiron Pollard, leading from the front with a blistering innings of 47.

He was ably assisted by Danesh Ramdin and Jimmy Neesham who both scored 33 runs as the host finished on a competitive total of 152 for 7 off their allotted 20 overs.

Bowling for the Patriots, Sheldon Cottrell bagged 3 for 13 and Rayad Emrit 3 for 39.

In reply, the Patriots had significant efforts from Evin Lewis (36), Fabien Allen (30) and Kjorn Ottley (25), but failed to get over the line.

They will now take on the Guyana Amazon Warriors tomorrow (Sept. 7) in front of an expected sellout crowd on a slow track.
