By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – JUST days after 23-year-old Marcus Rubaine of Saddlers Village died by drowning, reports reaching this publication stated that a similar incident occurred yesterday (Sept. 12) at Banana Beach in the Southeast Peninsula involving a male US citizen.

This incident was confirmed today by the police in a press release, which gave the man’s name as 72-year-old Gregory Dean Vematsu of California, United States of America.

The release stated that police received a report of the incident at about 11:00 a.m. yesterday and enquiries revealed that while snorkeling with his wife, Vematsu had experienced difficulty which resulted in his demise.

The District Medical Doctor was summoned to the scene and pronounced him dead.

Technicians from the Crime Scene Unit had processed the scene and an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

At about 7:00 a.m. on Saturday (Sept. 7), Rubaine had left his Saddlers home to go diving with an individual at Lavington Bay.

Some time later while diving, he had experienced difficulties and drowned. His body was taken to the shore by a civilian and later pronounced dead by the District Medical Doctor.
