BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, September 23, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Prime Minister and National Political Leader of the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, on Saturday September 21 joined leadership, membership and friends of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) on the 2019 edition of PAM Charity Walk.

“I am pleased by the invitation to walk with a member party of the Team Unity and show public support for the party and the charitable outreach which it promotes,” said Prime Minister Harris.

The walk started in Boyd’s, in Constituency Number Three, where Team Unity’s candidate Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett the PLP’s Deputy Political Leader led the participants who included PAM’s two Deputy Political Leaders, the Hon Eugene Hamilton and the Hon Lindsay Grant, PAM National Chairman Ambassador Jonel Powell, and Area Parliamentary Representative for East Basseterre, the Hon Ian Patches Liburd.

“From the standpoint of the health and wellness of our communities, my government supports all events geared at healthy living,” said Prime Minister Harris, who is also CARICOM’s lead spokesperson on Human Resources, Health and HIV matters. “I thank the deputy leader of PLP and her executive members for their support. Solidarity knows no boundaries and we will work together for the better of our country.”

The walk took the participants through Constituency Number Two (Central Basseterre), where Team Unity’s Candidate Ambassador Jonel Powell took the lead. Along the way participants made several stops to exchange views with residents of the areas they passed. When it entered East Basseterre, the Hon Ian Patches Liburd took the lead, as it criss-crossed several streets in the vast New Town area, before it ended outside the constituency office at the corner of Pond Road, and Stainforth Street.

“I was pleased by the warm reception our Team Unity family received as we walked and greeted persons along the route,” noted Prime Minister Harris. “Particularly the constituents of our candidate for Constituency Two Ambassador Jonel Powell, our candidate for Number One Hon Patches Liburd, and our candidate for Number Three Hon Senator Akilah Byron-Nisbett.”

Team Unity Administration which came to office in February 2015 is made up of three political parties, the People’s Action Movement (PAM), the Peoples Labour Party (PLP), and the Nevis-based Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM).

In the meantime, National Chairman of the People’s Action Movement Ambassador Jonel Powell said that the 2019 edition of the PAM Charity/Independence Walk which has been held since the 1980s was a way to come out and show solidarity with the less fortunate in the society, as the walk is held every year to get funds to a worthy charity.

“We are still resolute in our position in unity and Team Unity, and this year we are happy to have the presence of the Prime Minister for the first time,” commented Ambassador Powell. “We started in Constituency Number Three and so we are happy to have the Caretaker for that Constituency for Team Unity, the Hon Senator Akilah Byron-Nisbett and part of her team to come and join us. It is independence - it is unity and we are happy to have our brothers and sisters join us.”
