By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - CRICKET WEST INDIES has whittled down its candidacy list for the job of new Head Coach of the senior team to six candidates.

    According to a statement from the Board, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has made good progress with the recruitment of a full time Head Coach, with the final six candidates already short-listed from a list of 34 applicants.

    CWI however did not disclose the identity of those short-listed.

    Vice-President and Chairman of the Human Resources Committee, Dr. Kishore Shallow, Director of Cricket (DoC) Jimmy Adams and CWI HR Manager Oneka Martin-Bird selected the 11 most suitable coaches from the starting list of 34 applicants, all of whom made the application deadline of September 20.

    According to CWI, the list of applicants was then further cut to a short-list of six candidates on September 24, with selection based on “the selection criteria and recruitment process approved by the Board of Directors at the quarterly meeting in Tobago on September 7-8”.

    Dr. Shallow and Jimmy Adams will now be part of a wider panel to facilitate two rounds of interviews to select the Head Coach of the West Indies Men’s Team before the upcoming series against Afghanistan in November in India.

    The six short-listed candidates, as well as those who were unsuccessful, have all been notified in writing.

    The six potential Head Coaches, all of whom have a minimum of a Level Three coaching accreditation, will be evaluated on the basis of the following parameters as outlined in the publicly advertised job paper:

    Detailed knowledge of the cricket landscape within the West Indies and globally;
    Previous work experience in a similar role internationally and/or coaching leading teams;
    Broad understanding and experience in sports management and working with professional cricketers;
    Sound practical experience in developing elite players;
    Sound knowledge of high performance cricket with coaching experience at the Test or First-Class Level; and
    Continuously up to date on modern coaching methods and sports management developments.

    The last time West Indies Men’s Team had a full time Head Coach was September 2018, prior to Stuart Law’s announced resignation.

    Commented on the recruitment process, CWI President Ricky Skerritt said: “I am pleased with what I am hearing of the transparency and efficiency of the process thus far, and the fact that we are on schedule to have a full time Head Coach in place soon.”

    The current schedule speaks to the six remaining candidates being interviewed on October 1, following which the most suitable three candidates would participate in the final interview due be held on October 11.
