13-year-old’s throat slashed

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – Shock gripped the hearts of Sandy Point and the surrounding communities when news of a throat-slashing incident involving a minor began circulating yesterday (Aug. 31).

Thirteen-year-old Dominique Henry of Lower Bourkes Project, Sandy Point, is currently housed at the Joseph N. France General Hospital, nursing wounds to his neck and stab wounds about his body.

The incident leading to his hospitalization occurred yesterday afternoon when an individual forcibly gained access to his home, where he was alone, and launched an attack on him with a sharp object.

Further information suggests that a struggle ensued between the two, progressing from the inside of one room to the outside where Henry fought desperately to ward off the attack.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the youth made his way to the outside of the house but was again assailed with the use of a concrete block before making an escape westward across the project where he is said to have collapsed.

A communiqué issued by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force dated September 1, 2009, confirms that the incident took place, although it does not divulge specific details.

“At about 2:55 pm on August 31st 2009, the Police in Sandy Point responded to a report at Bourkes Project, Sandy Point.  Investigations revealed Dominique Henry, 13-years-old, was at his home when he was stabbed multiple times about his body and his throat slashed.  He was taken to the Pogson Hospital by a neighbor, and was later transferred to the JNF Hospital where he was treated and warded in serious condition.”

A well-placed source told SKNVibes that the teenager sustained wounds to his head, chest, face and back, as well as suffered other injuries including a collapsed lung.

Inspector Cromwell Henry, the police force’s Press and Public Relations Officer, told this media house that they have a 14-year-old suspect in custody that is “assisting with investigations”.

Persons with any information relative to this incident are asked to contact the Sandy Point Police Station at 465-6261. The police have assured that any information given will be treated with the strictest confidence and can be given on condition of anonymity.
