KINGSTON, Jamaica- DANCEHALL artiste Zebra is being sought by police for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.

It is said that several persons close to the child became concerned when she began to act in a strange manner.

The girl’s mother told police that she suspected her child was sexually active.  However, the mother also admitted to police that she did nothing about it.  The 13-year-old’s mother is now in police custody, being held on suspicion of aiding and abetting while police search for Zebra.

Zebra whose real name is Garfield Vassell was released from a Jamaican prison last September.  He served seven years of a combined 10-year sentence for rape, assault at common-law, indecent assault and breaching a probation order.

Those sentences stemmed from fondling and attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl in 2000, raping an 18-year-old university student in 2001, and assaulting and beating his then girlfriend.

The artiste emerged on the dancehall scene as a “Tiger soundalike” in 1992 with the hit song “Weh Yu Run Fah”.  His other hits include ‘My Type a Love’, ‘Rupert’, ‘Picture Fi Frame’ and ‘Redder than Red’.
