By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – REGIONAL limited over cricket is headed to St. Kitts and Nevis and also Trinidad and Tobago in November with the staging of the Cricket West Indies Super 50 Tournament.

The Colonial Medical Insurance Super 50 Tournament is slated to bowl off on November 6 and will feature two zones of five teams each in the two territories.

Zone A will be played in St. Kits and Nevis, and will see Combined Campuses and Colleges Marooners, the Leeward Islands, Jamaica Scorpions, Barbados Pride and Canada competing.

Zone B, which will be played in T&T, comprises the Guyana Jaguars, the West Indies Emerging Players, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, the Windward Islands Volcanoes and the United States.

The first game will be played in the Federation and will feature the Combined Campuses & Colleges Marooners and the Leeward Islands Hurricanes in a day-night encounter at Warner Park.

Operations Manager of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, Vernon Springer indicated that cricket officials in Barbados had signalled that they were no longer in a position to stage the tournament, so it was moved to St. Kitts and Nevis.

“Barbados has been pulled from the competition and St. Kitts now will host matches. Matches will be played at Warner Park, the main cricket center in St. Kitts, and Conaree,” Springer said while speaking recently on WINN FM’s Inside Edge programme.

Director of Cricket at CWI, Jimmy Adams noted in a press statement that the tournament presents a starting point for the next World Cup

“With the new World Cup cycle beginning now, this tournament, among other things, presents a starting point towards the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. It will allow us to start identifying players who will go on to play a role in our qualification. Though some of our international players will be touring India with the West Indies during the competition, it allows more opportunities and exposure for our young players.”

Each team will play each other twice in the group phase before the top two teams progress to the semi-finals and finals in Trinidad and Tobago.

According to Cricket West Indies, ESPN Caribbean’s broadcast partnership with the Super 50 Cup continues with 13 day/night matches, including the semi-finals and the final, broadcast live from the Queen’s Park Oval. The remaining 30 group matches will be webcast live on YouTube and its website.
