Launch of the Region’s 1st: CIWiL Country Chapter – St Kitts & Nevis

    St Kitts & Nevis Women create history with the formation of its inaugural CIWiL Country Chapter

     

    Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis, October 11, 2019 (SKNIS) - The Caribbean Women in Leadership CIWiL is pleased to announce the formation of CIWiL’s 1st Country Chapter in the Caribbean formed in St Kitts & Nevis. The inaugural chapter based in St Kitts and Nevis represents an inclusive and diverse group of women from across the Federation of St Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis involved in promoting capacity building and networking among women representatives and decision-makers as political and professional representatives across the Federation.
     
    The Executive:
     
    ? Telca Daniel-Wallace – Chairperson (country representative on CIWiL’s Regional Board)
     
    ? Naeemah Hazelle – Vice Chairperson
     
    ? Natasha Grey – Treasurer
     
    ? Ryllis Percival – Secretary
     
    ? Rhonda Nisbett-Browne – Public Relations Officer

    The formation and activities of Local Chapters aims to:
     
    1. broaden perspectives on women’s political participation,
     
    2. facilitate inclusive strong community level engagement,
     
    3. create women-only spaces,
     
    4. build partnerships across political and professional lines, and
     
    5. develop assistive tools to build the capacity among women, by facilitating women’s access to opportunities and skills to exercise their political rights, participate in decision-making, exercise leadership, and contribute to development processes by contributing to the reduction in inequalities as outlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
     
    The election took place after a 2-day capacity building workshop for General Election Candidates hosted by CIWiL in partnership with ParlAmericas and held on Wednesday 9th & Thursday 10th October, 2019 at the Sugar Bay Club Suites & Hotel, Frigate Bay, St Kitts and Nevis. Participants at this training session included elected parliamentarians, sitting senators, Promoting Women’s Political Leadership in the Caribbean candidates, PR and political consultants, media personnel activists and members of NGO’s from St Kitts and Nevis, Dominica and Monserrat.
