2009 Taiwan Agriculture Machinery and Trade Show

Press Release

The Embassy of Republic of China (Taiwan) in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis cordially invites public to visit the “2009 Taiwan Agricultural Machinery and Trade Show” at the Information and Communication Technology Centre (No., 3, C.A. Paul Southwell Industry Park), 10:00am to 5:00pm everyday from September 10th to 12th.

Taiwan, ranks as the 24th largest economy and the 16th largest exporter in the world, has been as the one of nations with respect to potential for long-term economic growth and technological development in the world. This year the exhibition showcase will present you the latest and fine agricultural and commercial electronic products.

For years, Taiwan has been renowned for its reliable quality, price competitiveness, and purposes-driven products throughout the world. Several world-class brands like Acer, ASUS, and HTC have become Taiwan’s image window to the world. Today, their products will be displayed. You can find the latest HTC cell phone, ASUS EeePc notebook, Acer All-in-One computer and other fantastic electronic products in this exhibition.

Apart from these hi-tech electronics/computer products, the exhibition also demonstrates Taiwan-made agriculture machineries including power tiller, cultivator, brush cutter, and agro-processing machinery, etc. which match quite well with the Federation’s farming environment.

St. Kitts and Nevis was traditionally an agriculture based economy with sugar cane as its main crop and sugar produced for export. Now it is timing for another wave of agricultural transition. These agriculture machineries are designed to be incorporated for this Embassy’s agriculture pilot scheme, which had been approved by the Cabinet, and Newton Ground was selected as its location. This agriculture pilot scheme will be partly demarcated as the R.O.C. Demonstration and Experimental Farm to provide technologies and necessary ways and means to the farmers. The majority of the scheme will be designed as the St. Kitts Agriculture Zone, a collective farm with proper infrastructure and irrigation system, which will be rented by potential farmers. In this pilot scheme, farmers can use adequate machineries to facilitate irrigation and farming.

With these agriculture machineries, we are convinced that would lead the way for the Federation to transit from labour-intensive agriculture to high value-added agriculture, which will certainly prepare the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis for a bright future of sustainable agricultural development.
