Charlestown, Nevis, November 11, 2019 – The Nevis Triathlon hosted at Oualie Beach, Nevis was the last of Nevis’ sport tourism events for the year and it benefitted Nevis well.
As the Nevis Triathlon celebrated its eighteenth year it attracted the most international participants it has had in years. Of the forty-eight participants twenty-eight of them were from outside St. Kitts and Nevis. The United Kingdom had sixteen athletes in the field. Race organizer Greg Phillip expressed his satisfaction with the makeup of the participants saying, “The international composition of the competitors in this year’s triathlon is a result of hard work and a sign of the direction in which the Nevis Triathlon is headed. We are both pleased and encouraged.”
The 2019 Nevis Triathlon therefore impacted the economy and the Tourism Industry positively. An estimated ninety room nights directly resulted from triathlon stays, and an assessed EC$140,000.00, beyond accommodation expenditure, was spent by those who traveled to Nevis for the triathlon. The financial impact of the Nevis Triathlon was therefore good. The all-important airlift to and from the Federation also gained as all the international triathletes flew in, the majority of them with bikes.
Local businesses took the opportunity to secure promotional benefits through sponsorship deals with the event. Rams Supermarkets continued their long running sponsorship as the official supermarket of the Nevis Triathlon, and this year the Nevis Cooperative Credit Union joined the ranks of sponsors as a partnering financial institution. The event is also grateful for the sponsorship of GMP Graphics and Printing, Islander Watersports, TDC Group of Companies, and the Oualie Beach Resort. A special thank you is also expressed to the triathlon’s three strategic partners, the Nevis Tourism Authority, Book Nevis, and Always Aim High Triathlon in the UK.
Volunteers play a major role in the success of the Nevis Triathlon and Nevis Multisport is glad to take the chance to publically thank all the volunteers and their coordinator Mrs. Govanie Manners-Hendrickson for their dedication and effort.
The nineteenth Nevis triathlon is planned for Saturday, November 7, 2020.
