Spectacular ‘Clash of the Calypso Titans” opens Brooklyn Caribbean Carnival tonight

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-PEOPLE in the New York area will get a taste of Caribbean Carnival tonight. The Brooklyn Caribbean Carnival kicks off today, Thursday, September 3 with the ‘Clash of the Calypso Titans’ from 7:30p.m. on the grounds of the Brooklyn Museum.
     
    Some of the greatest calypso and soca artistes are among the 24 contenders. They include Baron, Becket, Dense Plummer, Explainer, Gryner, Hunter, Lord Nelson, Rose, Scrunter, Sparrow, Swallow, and Winston Soso.
     
    According to CaribWorldnews.com, the annual Carnival is in its 42nd year. The extravaganza runs from September 3 to 7 and climaxes with the renowned Labor Day Carnival Parade on Eastern Parkway in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
     
    Millions of revelers and spectators from all across the US, Canada, the Caribbean and other international locations traditionally attend the five-day festival during their vacation, generating over US$200 million for New York City every year. 
     
    About 100,000 people were reportedly in attendance at the Brooklyn Museum grounds for the calypso competition last year.
     
    The Brooklyn Caribbean Carnival will feature other exciting shows, parades and concerts.
