PAM Launches Online Memorial Honouring Murder Victims

Hon. Shawn K. Richards
PAM's Secretariat

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, September 3rd 2009, PAM Secretariat - Today, PAM launched an online memorial honouring and remembering the 20 people murdered so far this year. The memorial is open for all to share their comments. PAM invites Kittitians and Nevisians of all political affiliations to come, visit the memorial, read what other Kittitians and Nevisians are saying and write their thoughts, offer their condolences, remember the victims and offer their prayers. PAM encourages you to visit the memorial at http://www.pamforchange.com/memorial, read what others are saying and write your own thoughts for all to see.

The memorial is non-partisan. According to the memorial, "It's time to put politics and party aside. It doesn't matter if you're PAM, Labour, CCM, NRP or Independent. We all know people who have been murdered or who have been victims of crime. This crime and murder crisis is hurting all of us and this memorial is for all of us. It's time for us to come together as a community to mourn the lives lost, pray for their souls and their families and stand united - PAM, Labour, CCM, NRP and Independent - against the crime crisis."

All eight of the PAM Candidates for Change have shared their thoughts and prayers on the open, living memorial. You are encouraged to share your condolences, thoughts and prayers as well. You can visit the memorial at http://www.pamforchange.com/memorial, read what your fellow countrymen are saying, share your own thoughts and write your own tributes.

"The crime and murder crisis in the Federation demands leadership," said Lindsay Grant. "We decided to lead. One way we can lead in opposition is to provide a space for the community to come together to pray for, mourn and honour those who have been tragically killed this year. It's time for us as a community to come together and stand united against the crime and murder crisis."

Grant continued, "Crime is hurting all of us. It doesn't matter if you're PAM or Labour, CCM or NRP, we invite all Kittitians and Nevisians who are concerned about crime to share your thoughts, your prayers and your condolences in our living memorial. It's time to come together to remember the fallen and say with a unified voice that we've had enough of the crime and enough of the murder.

Please visit http://www.pamforchange.com/memorial and have your voice be heard. Let's come together as a community."

PAM Parliamentarian Shawn Richards honoured the 20th murder victim of the year who was gunned down last night.

"Last night, the Federation recorded its 20th murder of the year when a 19-year-old was tragically gunned down," Richards said. "In all of 2003, we recorded just 10 murders. It's only the beginning of September and we've already doubled that number. The crime and murder crisis is spiraling out of control."

Richards concluded, "It's time for us to come together as a community. We can use new technology to come together, share our thoughts and prayers and have a community conversation about how we can bring an end to the crime and murder crisis. I hope you'll visit our Online Memorial at http://www.pamforchange.com/memorial and be part of the conversation."

PAM encourages all community members to join the conversation and share your thoughts, prayers and condolences at http://www.pamforchange.com/memorial
