16-Day Campaign Against Gender-Based Violence Begins

    November 25, 2019 -- November 25th begins Sixteen Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence – an observance spearheaded by the Gender Affairs Department of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender Affairs & Social Services.

     

    The annual 16-day Campaign, a worldwide observance which begins on November 25th and ends on Human Rights Day, December 10th, aims to raise awareness of gender-based harm (which refers to violence against someone because of their gender) and to advocate for its elimination.  

    In speaking of the Campaign, Senior Gender Field Officer Mrs. Shinnel Charles, explained that gender-based violence is a matter of serious concern around the world as well as in the Federation, with one hundred and fifty-seven (157) cases of domestic violence reported locally in 2016, particularly against women. As activities are held worldwide, Mrs. Charles noted that their Department would also be hosting several events to sensitive the public on the issue over the next two weeks, under the theme Love Echoes Loud, as follows:
