November 29th, 2019 -- The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has congratulated Barbados on its Fifty-Third Anniversary of Independence, noting that “as an independent nation, Barbados has achieved numerous accomplishments in, among other areas, music, sports, culture and academia”.

CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque sent a congratulatory message to  Barbados Prime Minister Hon Mia Mottley for the 30 November 2019 celebration, to be held under the theme, “One Nation, One Love, One Light”.

“While the people of your country unite in the light of this new milestone, they should not only reflect on the past but also feel hopeful that a bright future lies ahead,” the Secretary-General said in his message.

“During this most celebratory of occasions for your country, it would be remiss of me to not express the Community’s appreciation for the continued support of Barbados in relation to the regional integration process,” Ambassador LaRocque said.

“As Lead Head of Government in the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet for matters related to the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), you have brought energy and ideas to advance this issue which is intrinsically linked to the Region’s success in enhancing the welfare of its people. The various efforts undertaken recently in this regard are a testament to your commitment and the priority you give to the CSME in particular and the integration process as a whole,” he added.

The Secretary-General told Prime Minister Mottley that the Community looks forward to her Chairmanship of CARICOM in January 2020, and anticipates her “continued invaluable support during this ongoing period of renewal and change as we work towards a strengthened and more integrated Community for all”.
