BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOR the third time in as many months, a female was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in Basseterre.
According to a police communiqué, at about 5:00 a.m. yesterday (Nov. 1), a male assailant held a female at knifepoint, pulled her into a nearby clump of bushes in the Basseterre area and sexually assaulted her.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing and the police have made a special appeal to anyone who might have information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrator to contact the Special Victims Unit (SVU) by dialling 465-2241 ext. 4252.
The SVU can also be reached via cell phone at 665-3091 and persons may also contact the nearest police station or call the Crime hotline at 707.
This is the third time for the year that a female was sexually assaulted at knifepoint in the Basseterre area.
Police had informed that an incident of sexual assault in the Basseterre area was reported at about 10:45 p.m. on Friday, September 6.
Investigations revealed that a male assailant had held a young female at knifepoint, pulled her into an unoccupied building and sexually assaulted her.
Also in the Basseterre area, police reported that on Saturday, November 9, a male had held a female at knifepoint, pulled her into a nearby clump of bushes and sexually assaulted her.
And in another Basseterre incident, police had reported that close to 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26, an individual had entered the Basseterre premises where a female was staying and sexually assaulted her.
On Saturday, March 23, a teenager was sexually assaulted in the Basseterre area.
Police reported that some time after 8:00 p.m. on the day in question, the perpetrator, who was following the teen, had forced her to a vacant lot of land and sexually assaulted her.
Six days later, police had charged a man from Basseterre for the incident.
Those incidents bring to six the number of females reportedly rape/sexually assaulted in St. Kitts for this year.
The sixth reported incident occurred in Newton Ground.
According to a police communiqué, at approximately 3:00 a.m. on June 4, three armed individuals had entered a woman’s home in the Newton Ground area, sexually assaulted her, robbing her of a number of personal items and fled the scene in her vehicle.
However, on Monday, September 20, police had arrested and charged one of the men with Burglary, Rape and Buggery.
