Blood donations needed for young stabbing victim

13-year-old Dominique Henry
By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FAMILY and friends of Monday’s (Aug. 31) cut-throat attack victim, Dominic Henry, have made a public call for individuals to donate blood to the 13-year-old, who is still nursing stab wounds at the JNF General Hospital.

Dominic’s attack left him with multiple stab wounds to the back, chest and face, a collapsed lung and a slashed throat. While sources at the hospital inform that he is in a “stable” condition, Dominic lost a great deal of blood as a result of his attack.

Mother of the victim, Andrea Henry, told SKNVibes that the family would be grateful for individuals to donate much needed blood. Dominic has a blood type O-negative and while this blood type can be donated to a person with any other blood type, he can only receive blood from someone with O-negative.

“Because of the lot of blood he lost, we are kindly asking people with the blood type O-negative to donate blood to the blood bank at the JNF [General Hospital]. He has been improving since his attack and we would really want him to be in better health,” Andrea said.

Recognizing the rarity of the blood type, family and friends have posted messages on various online social network sites asking persons with O-negative blood type to come forward and donate for the good cause.

A recent post circulating the popular social networking site Facebook read, “If you are in St. Kitts and your blood type is O-Negative, please go to JNF blood bank and donate blood on behalf of Dominic Henry. He was the victim of the brutal stabbing incident on Monday sustaining a punctured lung and several other stab wounds ......as well as a slashed throat. If you don't know your blood type then a simple test can be done to find out. Please help!”

On Monday, Dominic was attacked while at home in Lower Bourkes Project, Sandy Point. His attacker, who is suspected to be a minor, allegedly broke into the house and launched a violent attack on him with a sharp object.

A gruesome struggle followed resulting in Henry receiving multiple stab wounds and a life threatening cut throat. The boy, traumatized by the attack, desperately ran for his life and collapsed outside a neighbour’s residence.

Andrea thanked family, friends, church members and members of the general public for their encouraging words and prayers, which have kept her strong during this challenging time.

Individuals interested in donating blood are asked to contact the blood bank at the JNF General Hospital and indicate that they would be donating to Dominic Henry.
