BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A music video that is dedicated to all the loved ones who have passed over the years is receiving great reception.
“I hope you can see, you can hear, all the cries, all the tears, we miss you…,” local artiste Kervin Benjamin sings soulfully.
‘21-Gun Salute (We Miss You)’ by Benjamin, who goes by the moniker ‘Infamus’, encapsulates in one song all the emotions, thoughts and words of what many go through when they lose a loved one.
The video holds the distinction of receiving more than 4,000 views on YouTube, the popular website for videos, less than two weeks since Benjamin uploaded it.
Benjamin said he was inspired to write the song last December when two persons he knew were gunned down in Cayon, his community.
“The song is for everyone, in general, who has lost someone,” Benjamin said. “We kept in mind everyone who had passed, not only from violence but also from natural causes. I wanted the song to be a form of comfort for the families,” he added.
The 20-year-old artiste said that he has received positive feedback from persons who have listened to the song and seen the video. He added that they often commend him and its director for producing a music video with international appeal.
Nigel ‘Capo’ Lewis of Tru Capo Productions directed and produced the music video. Lewis’ vision for the video was to make it as ‘real life’ as possible.
“When I first heard the song, I knew I had to use candlelight in the video, as it is a tribute song,” said Lewis. “Around the time we were shooting the video, a candlelight vigil was held for a Cayon resident and we used clips from that. For this video, we wanted to capture much of what people go through when they lose someone,” he added.
Scenes were shot at Springfield Cemetery and in Cayon. There was also a re-enactment of the singer arriving at the hospital and hearing the sad news of a friend’s passing. That scene was shot at Pogson Hospital in Sandy Point.
Benjamin said he is working on plans to release a music video for another single ‘Feel like crying’. In this love song, Benjamin reminisces about a girlfriend who broke his heart. He plans to release the music video for it in early October.
The singer, who is working on his debut album, has other songs including ‘I’ll Be There’, ‘Gun Town’ and ‘Sipping Coke and Hennessy’.
Kervin Benjamin aka ‘Infamus’ released his first single ‘Tell me why’ in 2007.
