BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, December 14, 2019 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- A grand motorcade snaking from Monkey Hill to the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex in Molineux tomorrow Sunday December 15 starting at 4:30 pm will herald the prize giving and official closing ceremony of the 2019 Harris Basketball League tournament that will be held on the complex’s hard courts starting from 6:30 pm.
Sponsor of the league, Prime Minister and Area Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Seven Dr the Hon Timothy Harris, will be the guest of honour at the ceremony that will also feature music by Grand Masters and Hellfire Sounds.
The motorcade, according to Harris Basketball League Commissioner Mr Jarvid ‘Bugga’ Percival, will start from Monkey Hill, home to one of the teams that took part in this year’s tournament and then travel down to Dorset in Central Basseterre, the home ground of a number of players on the champion team this year, Jamballers Basketball Club.
From Basseterre the motorcade will then proceed on towards Conaree and on to Keys which is the home of one of the teams that took part in the tournament, pass through Cayon and on to Ottley’s the home of the second placed team, and ending up at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex’s hard courts.
The keenly contested 2019 Harris Basketball League tournament opened on Saturday August 31, and at the end of it Jamballers Basketball Club of Molineux, which was captained by Sylvester Whyte, retained the championship they last won in 2016.
According to Harris Basketball League Deputy Commissioner Ms Diana Palmer, nine teams took part in this year’s competition including - for the first time - a team from Sister-Island Nevis.
The teams were Inner City Young Ballers, Ballahollics, and Jamballers from Molineux; Runnerz from St. Peter’s, Youth and Sports Eagles from Nevis, Rebels from Keys, Street Ballers from Ottley’s, Falcons from Sandy Point, and Tuff Ballerz from St. Paul’s.
Placing second were Street Ballers of Ottley’s captained by Joshio Morton. In the third place were Sandy Point Falcons; while in the fourth place were Inner City Young Ballers of Molineux. Others are Youth and Sports Eagles out of Nevis (fifth place), Tuff Ballers of St. Paul’s, St. Peter’s Runnerz, Rebels of Keys, and Ballahollics of Molineux in that order.
Awardees for the season are Tyrone Hutchinson of Jamballers for ‘most points’; Joshio Morton of Street Ballers for ‘most rebounds’; Daren Lewis of Jamballers for ‘most assists’; Errol O’Loughlin of Street Ballers for ‘most steals’; and Stevenson Providence of Youth and Sports Eagles for ‘most blocks’.
